New 6x6 Gallery Painting: ATLANTA now on display at Charmingwall (191 W. 4th St., NYC)

This 6"x6" oil and gold leaf painting is based on the Greek myth of 'Atlanta'...  The only way Atlanta's father could get her to agree to marry was by having a race on the condition that the man who beat her could marry her.  However, she was quite the skilled huntress & speedy runner at that, so that many men lost their lives (that was the gamble on their part). One fellow, Hippomenes, was very much in love with Atlanta and prayed to Aphrodite to help him in the race; she answered by giving him three golden apples. Each time Atlanta ran ahead of Hippomenes he threw one of the apples to distract her, and with this he was able to beat her, and thus marry her.  Things later went awry and they were changed into lions... but hey, it is Greek mythology afterall, not Disney (although being a lion might not be so bad).
